'Don't fight like a man. Fight like a girl.'

Not too long ago, I was watching the John Wick spinoff "Ballerina," and in there was a nugget of a quote. During the protagonist's training, she is fighting a man, and her trainer tells her, "Don't fight like a man. Fight like a girl."

The idea was that she lost her advantage the moment she tried to fight in a conventional sense. A large part of a small business's advantage is its size. When it tries to operate like a large company, it loses that very same advantage. FIGHT LIKE A SMALL BUSINESS!

The benefits of being small

As a small business, you have too little to lose. You can fail faster, pivot faster, and find out what works faster. Agility is supposed to be your virtue, but if you introduce too many needless processes, you lose your edge.

I know this because I've worked at places that prioritize looking busy over actually getting things done and putting products out. The idea is not to abandon all processes but to find a good balance that embraces the agility of a small business.
